Subject Overview

Our Personal Development curriculum is robust and structured to allow all students to gain a sound understanding of the world in which they live in an age appropriate way.

Personal Development covers the areas of learning required for the PSHCE curriculum including various learning under three themes of Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World. As well as bespoke personal development that is relevant to our students, our curriculum also tailors required learning to support our students needs.

It is very much incumbent on all adults in a learning environment to prepare students for the experiences they will face within their lives, our PD curriculum teaches students explicitly how to manage, cope and learn from these experiences.

Key Stage 3

Initially, the personal development curriculum aim is to help students navigate some of the monumental changes that are happening in their lives as they transition from primary school, their journey through puberty and encouraging positive mental health. Learning in KS3 encompasses all of the three themes of PSHCE in an age appropriate way and students are summatively assessed at the end of a topic.

Key Stage 4

As well as reviewing many of the topics that have been covered in KS3, students will also have a strong focus on their next steps (Post-16) and KS4 learning will encourage students to make the best choices for their future. As would be expected, the focus of learning for the PSHCE curriculum is age appropriate as we begin to look at more relevant topics for students aged 14-16. Lessons within KS4 will also be dedicated to college applications, college interviews and mock interviews to prepare students for their life beyond Wellfield.
