Dear Parents and carers,

Welcome to the Parents’ section of the Wellfield Academy website.

There are few professions more important or more rewarding than teaching, and it is an immense privilege to serve as Headteacher of such a dedicated staff body and such remarkable young people, at the heart of a warm and supportive community. Wellfield is not simply a school — it is a place where our shared values shape every experience.

At the centre of everything we do is our mantra: “Nothing but the Best.” This is not just an ambition; it is our expectation. It underpins The Wellfield Standard - our commitment to being inclusive, aspirational and community-centred in all aspects of school life. We expect the very best for our students and from our staff, and we work tirelessly to ensure that excellence is the norm.

As a smaller than average school, we have long been recognised for our nurturing environment. Every child is known, valued and supported. However, our culture of care is matched by a relentless drive to inspire, challenge and enable every student to achieve highly and develop fully. Inclusion at Wellfield means ensuring that every learner, regardless of starting point, background or need, is given the opportunity and encouragement to succeed. High standards and high expectations apply to all - because we believe in the potential of every individual.

Our journey as part of Endeavour Learning Trust has strengthened this commitment. Since entering partnership in September 2017 and officially converting in December 2023, we have continued to grow from strength to strength. These developments have enhanced the opportunities available to our students while preserving the close-knit, supportive ethos that defines Wellfield. I am incredibly proud of how far we have come and excited about what lies ahead.

Pastoral care remains a cornerstone of The Wellfield Standard. Our Student Services team works closely with students and families to ensure support is timely, compassionate and effective. We place strong emphasis on personal development - fostering resilience, independence, creativity, health and wellbeing - so that our young people leave us not only with strong academic outcomes, but as confident and capable individuals ready to contribute positively to society. Our dedicated pastoral structure ensures that concerns are addressed swiftly and that communication with families is open and constructive.

Every day, we strive to maintain the right balance between nurture and challenge, between support and stretch. We believe in clear boundaries, ambitious goals and creative approaches to learning. We want our students to dream big and to have the confidence and determination to turn those dreams into reality. Above all, we want them to experience the joy of learning and the pride that comes from achievement.

I hope you find this section of the website informative and helpful. We greatly value open and honest communication and welcome your feedback at any time. Our partnership with parents is vital, and we are committed to working alongside you in support of your child.

Wellfield is a special place. Those who join us -staff and students alike- quickly become part of the Wellfield family.

Yours sincerely,

Mr J Lewis
