At Wellfield Academy, our PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic) education empowers students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe, and prepared for life and work in modern Britain. Our intent is to provide a broad and inclusive PSHE curriculum that:

  • Builds self-awareness, confidence, and resilience
  • Promotes positive mental health and wellbeing
  • Encourages respectful relationships and understanding of diversity
  • Equips students with the skills to make informed decisions about their health, relationships, and future
  • Supports students tto develop economic awareness, financial literacy, and an understanding of the world of work
  • Embeds the principles of British values, SMSC, and safeguarding

PSHCE is a stand-alone subject at Wellfield Academy with time to deliver this and other strands of the Personal Development curriculum but is also a central thread running through the whole school experience, enriched by assemblies, tutor programmes, external speakers, and community involvement. We deliver it in line with statutory guidance for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education, tailored to the needs and context of our students.

Ultimately, we aim to develop young people who are:

  • Healthy in body and mind
  • Confident and independent in their choices
  • Empathetic and respectful toward others
  • Prepared for adult life with the knowledge and character to thrive

Citizenship Intent

At Wellfield Academy, our Citizenship Provision helps to provide students with knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them to play a full and active part in society. Citizenship education fosters students’ keen awareness and understanding of democracy, government and how laws are made and upheld. We equip students with the skills and knowledge to explore political and social issues critically, to weigh evidence, debate and make reasoned arguments. It prepares students to take their place in society as responsible citizens, manage their money well and make sound financial decisions.

Citizenship Delivery

Citizenship is delivered in PHSCE lessons through the weekly curriculum. It is further enhanced through the curriculum and enriched curriculum. The objectives that we follow are outlined below:
