RSE (Relationships & Sex Education)
Wellfield Academy adheres to statutory guidance in relation to RSE. The aim of Wellfield Academy’s RSE is to give young people the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds, not just intimate relationships.
Our RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) aims to give young people the knowledge and skills to build healthy, respectful relationships of all types, understand consent, recognise unhealthy or abusive behaviour, and know how to seek help. It supports emotional wellbeing, confidence, self-respect, and teach that delaying sex is valid, while giving accurate, non-judgemental information about sexual health, contraception, pregnancy, and safer sex.
Teaching is age-appropriate, inclusive, and factual, covering sexual orientation and gender identity respectfully and embedded throughout the curriculum. Students learn the law on consent, abuse, online behaviour, FGM, exploitation, hate crime, sexuality, gender identity, and image sharing.
RSE at Wellfield Academy also promotes character and resilience (e.g., kindness, honesty, integrity) and understanding of family, friendship, bullying, stereotypes, equality, and online safety. By the end of their time at our school, students will know:
- What healthy relationships look like
- Their rights and responsibilities
- How to recognise and report abuse or risks
- How to make safe, informed choices about relationships and sexual health
- Key legal protections and offences that keep young people safe
Overall, RSE empowers students to build safe, healthy relationships and make informed decisions while respecting themselves and others.
This is the guidance by which our curriuclum is developed.
